Movement Intelligence is a training system for dynamic postural re-education and mind-body suppleness into an active old age. Developed by Dr. Ruthy Alon, based on Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais’ approach to somatic learning.  

Bones need strength and anti-gravitational,vertical impact with rhythmic pressure. Bones need integrated coordination,partnered with awareness to arrive at a higher level of function and use.Activity needs to be challenging and dynamic in order to develop resilient bones. Walking, running and jumping are the best tools for developing stronger bones. How can we do this in safety? 

This Program combines the gentleness of somatic learning with Feldenkrais movement awareness. Movement Intelligence assists to build stronger bones for young and old.  Students vary from high performance athletes,dancers to seniors and health care professionals seeking to expand their knowledge of complimentary healing practices.

There are five branches to the program:

1_ Bones for Life: Building Bone Resiliency

The Bones for Life program teaches you how to increase bone strength through natural movement and rhythm.Influenced by rhythmic African walking styles, the program consists of 90 processes. Unlike western cultures, African peoples are not beset with osteoporosis. Their strong bones are built by dynamic walking styles that integrate the forces of gravity.

The 90 processes challenge habitual movement patterns that can lead to muscular and skeletal problems like lower back pain, joint injuries and core stability issues. The program offers you gentle movement patterns that allow for flexible posture and movement into an active and graceful old age.

2_ CHAIRS: Healthy Sitting for GoodPostural Support

Healthy sitting leads to good postural support whether at your computer, driving or dining out. The Chairs program is designed to address habits that often lead to degenerative fixation, habits that can lead to problems with our neck, back, hips and knees. It offers you mini processes designed to expand your options of dynamic sitting with the emphasis on transmitting force throughout your skeleton, as essential for your bone strength.

3_ walk for life: Improve Your WalkingPattern

This is a dynamic walking program of 90movement processes. The program restores and upgrades the quality andcoordination of our walking patterns. It’s rhythmic style promotes ease and muscle tone which increases fitness. For those who enjoy the great outdoors,Walk for Life processes extend your ability to walk long distances with greater suppleness.

In Movement Solutions (M.S.) you will learn self-care movement strategies for functional problems. The program provides a broad variety of movement procedures which help to resolve common muscular skeletal issues for feet, arms, shoulders, shoulder blades, lower back, knees, hip joints and the neck.  Each specific M.S. process uses the perspective of Feldenkrais® integrative strategies.  You will explore the reciprocal interdependency between suffering body parts and the correspondingBio-dynamic partners of the entire body network. 


Following a postural assessment, you will be given a personalised program specifically adapted for you. You will explore alternative options of postural and movement choices. Follow-up activities are given for practice and consolidation for homework.

Moshe Feldenkrais (Doctor of Science, Sorbonne) was an engineer, physicist, inventor, martial artist and student of human development. In developing his work Moshe Feldenkrais studied, among other things, anatomy, physiology, child development, movement science, evolution, psychology, a number of Eastern awareness practices and other somatic approaches and Judo. Dr. Feldenkrais authored a number of seminal books on movement, learning, human consciousness and somatic experience.

He taught in Israel and many countries in Europe through the 1960s and 1970s and in North America through the 1970x and 1980s. The breadth, vitality and precision of Dr. Feldenkrais work has seen it applied in diverse fields including neurology, psychology, performing arts, sports and rehabilitation.

Moshe Feldenkrais' approach to the body's functional integration using Awareness Through Movement programs, is evidence in the following quotation:

The advantage of approaching the unity of mental and muscular life through the body lies in the fact that the muscle expression is simplere because it is concrete and easier to locate. It is also incomparably easier to make a person aware o what is happening in the body., therefore the body's approach yields faster and more direct results. On acting on the signifcant parts of the body, such as the eyes, the neck, the breath, or the pelvis, it is easy to effect striking changes of mood on the spot.

Ruthy Alon graduated from the first training of Moshe Feldenkrais in Tel Aviv in 1969. She is the author of Mindful Spontaneity and creator of the Movement Nature Meant video.

Benefiting from a close working relationship with Dr. Feldenkrais until his death, Ruthy Alon has further developed his teachings into the Movement Intelligence Programs.

At 84 years of age, Dr. Ruthy Alon actively continues to teach and train Movement Intelligence in Europe, America and in the Asia Pacific to practitioners, students and the general public.
